    What is the temperature there?

Here in SoCal, it was about 90degrees during the day, and it's about 65degrees right now.

    I welcome this feature.

People want a layout with usability, not a design that looks just so. Still, both are easy to achieve if your skilled.

I always surf with my text zoomed at least one level which is available on every browser - this messes up more wabpages than it should. Some of my favorite websites have comment textareas with 3-4 lines of text and are as few as 20 characters wide. I always end up writing in Pages and copying into the textarea.

I have one of these (http://us.kensington.com/html/1743.html). I would like to trade it for one of these (http://us.kensington.com/html/5566.html). I'm not a big fan of mice with batteries and don't really need the wireless, so I was just wondering if someone would be willing to trade. Mouse is in excellent condition, barely used. It will be a straight up trade, no cash added on your end. :)

UGH. Been getting this damn error for the past couple of hours:

F932: We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are conducting maintenance which prevents us from updating your account information. Please retry your transaction again in one hour.

I was having the same issue. I finally called AT&T, after 20 minutes of trying to add the feature to my account the rep told me he'd call me back after looking into it some more. About 15 minutes later he called back and said it still wasn't working and that he and others would need to do some extended research into the matter and that he would call me back when they were done. That was several hours ago.

I have the 450 minute plan for $39.99 and the 2 GB Data Pro with 1000 messages at the moment. I also get a FAN discount, but I doubt that would be screwing things up.

Macs are designed to have Dual Processors, and OS X is designed to take advantage of that. Panther will definitely take advantage of the second processor, as will various applications.

A High Court in the UK has ordered SONY to disolve its merger with BMG. Fighting this could cost valuable resources.
If they lose, the cost of breakup could well put SONY under. Remember BETAMAX. Yes, I know SONY/BMG is the music arm of the company-but it will be a drain on the whole company.

Dude, seriously give it a rest. You've just shot down your credibility because SonyBMG is a separate division that Sony Corp. itself owns a 50% stake in with Bertlesman(n) owning the other 50%. That ruling has no effect on Sony Corp. itself. You citing this on a forum is as lame as the many people on Digg or Slashdot who rush to any thread concerning Sony and post about RootKits when again, it was SonyBMG that did that and not any other SonyCorp. division. Point is, any negative ruling against SonyBMG has no impact at all on Blu-Ray development nor will it give any traction to HD-DVD.

Plus, a UK High Court does not have the power to dissolve SonyBMG. Perhaps for the UK subsidiary division but not for the entire worldwide operations of SonyBMG. The only way SonyBMG would be forced to break up would be if the European Commission or the U.S. Justice Department took action and won in their respective court systems.

The chipmakers for the PSP3 are having a bitch of a time making any that are worth using in the player-they have a 1 out of 5-6 usable chip ratio. The rest get used in other less demanding hardware, or get tossed out-. SONY still pays for them-good or not-talk about bleeding. They are very expensive.

First off, you mean the PS3. Are you a Microsoft shill? The chipmaker is IBM. IBM, Sony, and Toshiba all have vested interests in making the Cell chip a success (although Toshiba would rather not see the PS3 a success because it would wipe out HD-DVD's chance at success). Failure rates will not have an impact on the MSRP of any Sony product for the consumer because they will want the PS3 to obliterate the Microsoft Xbox360 and the HD-DVD platforms all at once.

Poor PQ reviews, the lack of BR2 (yes folks youve been had-the current discs -or BR1- are not the 'final' version, those COULD be out by November, optimistically-they were rushed out so they could say "Were first!" They are said to be 'fine tuning' the "real" BR2 disc spec and manufacture. Translation-it isnt working very well, like the PSP chips.

First off, it was HD-DVD that jumped the gun and shipped first in a desperate attempt to solidify itself before Blu-Ray (and later, the PS3) shipped, not the other way around.

Now with that having been said, get some perspective. The original DVD platform didn't reach maturity or success until the 3rd Generation players were brought out. Both the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray decks currently are on their first generation, and both are showing signs of quality issues. The Toshiba HD-DVD deck had to have a firmware update to keep it from crashing due to Microsoft's usual software krappiness in the form of the iHD software. Both the current HD-DVD and Blu-Ray machines aren't using the greatest chip decoders which are causing both to not truly output at 1080i, let alone 1080p. This will be corrected when the second generation decks from both platforms ship with the new Sigma Designs decoders in the next couple of months. While it is true that Sony is shipping titles in MPEG2 until they bring out their own hardware, once that happens, the encoding in H.264 will be noticibily better than the HD-DVD titles that will continue to ship in Microsoft's inferior VC-1 (ahem, Windows Media 9) codec because Microsoft in truth is supporting HD-DVD simply because it uses the Microsoft iHD software instead of Java (like Blu-Ray does) and thus earns royalities with each HD-DVD deck shipped and every VC-1 encoded movie title also shipped. While Blu-Ray spec wise supports VC-1 (in addition to H.264 MPEG4 and MPEG2), it will be a very cold day in Hell when Sony decides to ship a Blu-Ray disc encoded in VC-1.

The moral of the story is to pick up a Blu-Ray deck when the second (or third) generation hits, and only buy discs encoded in the H.264 codec instead of the current MPEG2 versions. At that time, HD-DVD will be as useful as a Philips CD-i deck or a Circuit City DIVX player.

Briefly king of the world, suddenly things dont bode well for SONY or the BR disc.

Right. I bet you are anxiously awaiting the Microsoft Zune.

10 months later I really think people should wait a couple of months and buy the iPhone 5 in white... Maybe the improvements aren't big but it still is a new gen...

On the other hand, if you need a new phone and buy now (vs. waiting until Sept.) it gives you a 4-5 month head-start on getting your 2-year contract finished.

That's 4-5 months sooner you can get an iPhone 6, hopefully with real improvements (LTE, NFC, a durable form factor), instead of being stuck with a marginal speed bump and nothing more.

    nefan65 & Silas1066;

Without the need to requote Silas' post yet again I must disagree on a few points:

    1. India is not the ONLY country that the USA IT Industry is outsourcing to:
India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and China have already been done for the past 2-7yrs already if not more. Singling out India is a cop-out and its mostly programming that is outsourced (or was initially) along with level 1-3 support lines. Microsoft is not the only corporation to do this: nor the first. Again singling out India instead of just correctly generalizing outsourcing - shows a bit of ignorance; if not then just simply bad etiquette & taste. Admit that at the very least.

    2. The example that IT would entirely be outsourced and go the way of textiles is a bit long stretched but based on current trends & facts.
Examples: Although the auto industry went heavily to Japan as a quick shift for better build quality or fuel efficiency [Honda, Nissan Toyota of the 90s, Infiniti & Lexus as well], the German auto industry have always been there [Audi-Union: Audi/VW/Porsche, BMW, etc]. Ford is the only USA auto marker that didn't claim bankruptcy protection and well the quality of their cars has NEVER been better, sales are well up & the product line more refined to target consumers.
    - The point I'm making is that engineering accomplishments, R&D, design trends, performance, fuel efficiency/alternative modes of energy consumption (a new paradigm), car costs & basic equipment, etc have always changed which auto maker is on top.

The same can be said about the animation industry. Japan is king with just about all things Anime, but the big blockbuster movie $$ is still done by companies in the US of A. Different styles of artistic animation, expression, plots, voice acting or voice overs etc change. Can you honestly say that the American animation industry is failing against that of Japan? Artists, just like engineers work outside of borders - so long as laws, visas, patents, contracts don't bind them.

Now focusing on IT. Sure there are a number of 12-16yr old geeky pimple faced, goggle wearing (I'm being overly stereotypical here) kids across the world that can traverse very well in command line in Linux, or even in Terminal in OSX, or DOS on Windows. Many of whom can whip up a NASTY Virus or cluster of VIRII that'll bring an office to its knees - if built from scratched code in a matter of minutes.

BUT: you're forgetting those professors in certain universities around the world and the real forefathers of C+, UNIX code/command line, etc that built shells from scratch with serious purposeful insight that many are STILL in original form today in both Linux/Unix. These oldie's but goodies - like T. Berners Lee are able to build applications we use daily. These guys will continue to teach and work at the worlds best technology corporations: just because like Flynn their addicted and its their world, heart & soul.

Yes servers will be virtualized almost entirely - as if they where not already: remember RS400/MainFrame(?). Desktops as well - yet there are still 2 things that will allow the desktop and laptop survive for at least another decade.
    1. People still love to OWN things; tangible or not.
    - people still love the ability to grab what they own and use it portably the way they can or where they can:
The richest guys in the world have limo's and drivers 6x on Sunday. But they still buy, own, and drive their own cars. music since the very beginning has always loved to be played & shared by people. 8-track played at home/car only, cassette allowed it in smaller rooms and the walkman was born, Mini-Disc then compact disc made it even more portable and digital quality, now MP3's allow more music to be stored on CD/DVD's and on HDD/SSD's. What's one thing that has NOT changed? People still love to play/share/own music and love to have pictures or memories of those that play their favorites.
    2. Networks are STILL limited.
    - Limited by bandwidth: especially when talking about virtualized environments to be used/shared across continents: Riverbeds help quite a bit but still load balance and bandwidth issues.
    - Limited by memory speeds ^ see bandwidth above.
    - Limited by storage space - and the speeds to read/write access: this is more important than the horsepower race in cars or the top speed race or acceleration.

One day we'll have our own worldwide network where terminals are used along with tablets/smartphones - very similar to a Brainiac in Superman. Laugh all you want but with Google, Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft, Apple Sun Microsystems (back end servers), CISCO, Intel & AMD, BELL Labs/Ericsson LB/Lucent Technologies/ Military/ etc sooner or later their work will finally become a harmony - hardware, software (code/graphics/GUI/Voice & gesture control) will all reach a pinnacle where the human equation has reached its peak of intake/input rate of speed/quality of graphics/motion/computational power and bandwidth makes any micro form of latency negligible (or non-relavent). Some say there is always something better but sooner or later it'll happen. [PST: physically humans haven't evolved much in the past million years].

OK I think I had too much to toke on this derailment.

What benefits of the core code in OSX can be utilized to better suite corporations and are there ANY applications that cannot be ported to OS X - and extensions used by applications that cannot be used directly or ported over in real-time to be read/edited in the OSX ported app?!

Anyway, I just joined the MacRumors team.

I don't care for that at all either. In fact, I would like to have it the other way- it shows my contact pic INSTEAD OF a tweeter's picture if I have one. It just replaced my sister's picture with the blank Twitter icon. Not cool.
