Thanks to IV Core and Nixstor in particular for following up on the FOIA subject that has been brought up in several threads over the past couple of weeks (including one by me as well !) and take this up as an action item and providing guidance for the IV members on how to do the same.
I did not realize it was this simple! Will surely send the letter by this weekend.
Btw, How will we receive the receipt numer?? Are we supposed to attach a return (prepaid stamped) envelope or something?? Or we will just get a letter from the National Center after they receive our request?

in case someone has already raised tis point then please pardon my ignorance.
Not sure if anyone came across this in the same bill, for all those who will benefit by 5 year cluse they will be beneift but at the same time they will be excluded from the annual numerical limitation quota that means PD dates moving rapidly for as early as all who were here on 20-FEB-2004 (if the bill is passed today which we all know wont happen). So I guess not bad in giving it a shot for raising support for it

My question and doubt is how different is it from "5 year of legal presence v/s physical presence". People who didnt go to homeland for vacation are less than 10%.

I agree with you. No images, KISS.
Do we need images? Can't we just have text on a yellow paper with appropriate text highlighted? We want to emphasize on the text. Not sure what value add an image can have unless we have someone standing in a line outside a gc office with window and we could put something like .. another 5 years... The images has to be in sync with the text. I am not for putting a picture of the capitol hill so much. We have to emphasize on the problem. This is just my opinion.

I have no intention of playing spoilsport if you are taking some good faith initiative. In fact, if there is some campaign launched on this - I will probably even contribute (well - if you are doing something in good faith for a community then I have a moral obligation to support it if it is not harmful for the community).

6. If your visa is expired as mine is (btw a feb date has never opened up anywhere in India to date...i'm sick and tired and frustrated....getting an appt is a major hassle) the you better choose your airline carefully, the French embassy demands personal appearance (350 miles) for the 10 min it takes to issue a visa- which then lets me walk from one gate to another at De Gaulle.....
So if you travel to India and change planes in Paris you need a transit visa!!

I agree with you totally. But the sad part is, Try going the normal straight way & nobody entertains you when the companies hear the word "H4". All the work experience gathered over the years suddenly seems like crap in front of the visa status.
Its frustrating.

it seems like that ...actually if things get worse and many of us indeed lose jobs ..then I guess the mighty GC will finally become just a silly card.
here is a link which explains why it is not yet over ..I was talking to a friend and he told me that credit card companies, auto loans , commercial loans are in big trouble and could be the next shoe to drop. as for housing ..there was a small light at the end of tunnel ..but it seems that it was big bang collapse of wall street ..

If you really believe that this bogus bill will become a Law, then also see the real picture, that is why I posted the other Ifs.
This Bill is titled as "Employ America Act". By having the GC, you are not an American. If you do not know the rule here it is, GC is a "Privilege", and it is not a "Right". So if this Bill passes all these people with alerady having GC will also need to pack their Bags and Go. That is the reality, dude.
So again and again do not fall over it. If you respond to this Bill, and Vote "No" against it, you are trying to send wrong messages to the originators of the bill, that we are scared. Why you guys are making everyone scared, when there is nothing to be scared about.

When CEOs such as Steve Ballmer and John Chambers are personally calling the Senators because they think this amendment is a real threat, it will be least of our worries what opponents would think about us getting scared. Sorry about the generalization. I was refering to Senthil1 kind of folks, not folks like you. Thanks for all the support. My friend got a green card as recently as a month back, he struggled for a long time before he got one, I asked him if he wants to come for the rally and he told me "MRRRRRRRR I GOT MY GREEN CARD, YOU ARE ASKING THE WRONG PERSON FOR THE RALLY" and the same person told me "SOMETHING MUST HAPPEN TO THESE ROTTEN CONSULTING COMPANIES, THEY ARE RUINING THE SYSTEM" he got his GC from a small consulting company and after getting his GC he says these companies must not exist - he wants to shut thee door behind him
These kind of people need to realise that they were in the same boat and just got across the shore. It does not mean that they should not help such people for a good cause. I hope that the current list of GC seekers do not fall in to such category in future. There are only a very few who lead by example and it is better to follow a good example. Why would this website suddently decide to convert to a paid website? There is a link right on the top requesting funds / contributions, right? People who have resources / are willing to contribute will do it. Look at the postings of the core members who actually started this website. Did they ever make a harsh statement regarding the site visitors who have not contributed? Personally I havn't seen one yet, have you? They are very diplomatic in their efforts and thats what makes them leaders. We dont want juveniles to start dictating regulations in this forum. Lets leave these decisions to mature people who have insight in their decisions, OK. Actions taken when you are emotionally disturbed will do nothing but harm you and the rest of us. This site is and should remain a non paid. I have contributed a small amount sofar, however have found a very pleasant and enjoyable community here at the IV. I know many have contributed much more than me. Please remember that this website / core group efforts all began probably as a selfless act by a group of youngsters to benefit our legal immigrant community. Let not our emotions guide us but let reason guide us in our decisions and the best approach would be to let the core group decide. Now if they decide sternly that this can be run only as long as all the visitors/beneficieries contribute then I dont know what to say. Contributions were all voluntary and should remain voluntary. Some of those who support a paid website seem to be VERY AGITATED. If you are agitated while spending money then think twice before contributing. Dont expect everybody to do do exactly what you do.

So you would prefer Pappu or 3 other members to have a funding drive for ever instead of having a constant flow of money? No one questioned the intentions of core members or people who started the website. They not only started this as a place where we can discuss issues, but also as a place where people in similar situations can come together as a community and contribute towards the cause. The contribution is both monetary and personal time. Both grass root efforts and lobbying will bring success. I personally, (who has been vocal on the thread) am not agitated that I am paying and xyz is not paying. People do not see a need to pay for IV because they are getting what they want. Every one on their heart of hearts know what kind of platform we have built here and without $$ it all means nothing. An hour before I spoke with a NPR news reporter and she asked me if I were calling on behalf of IV as soon as I explained the VB fiasco. Its our choice to support through contributions or to undermine the main agenda of the organization.

Its amazing how the self proclaimed defenders of Hinduism think that the religion is so fragile. Last I checked Hinduism is known to be >5000 years old, withstood countless aggressors/forced conversions for over 1000s of years, absorbed various cultures and ethnicities to remain one of the dominant religions in the world.
Its asinine to think that the religion/culture that withstood Aurangzeb will be diminished by a freakin IPA.
It is my view that folks who get offended by something as trivial as this, are reflecting their own insecurities or even their lack of faith in something they have been led to believe in.
There is an excellent article on Hinduism and why and how it has survived over the millenia by Amartya Sen. This is one of many excellent articles which are compiled in a book titled "The Argumentative India". If you get a chance please read this article and, even better, the whole book.
There is a lot of information about India's history and culture (with references) and might help throw some light on this discussion of gods on a toilet seat or beer bottle.
I also see a business opportunity from this discussion--caps with Ganesha embroidered on them - would sell like hot cakes! :)

Before suing the USCIS, we should inform USCIS of our intentions. My idea is like this -
- Draft a letter highlighting the Statues and Rules (we can seek Attorneys help) regarding the Quarterly spill-over
- IV members/non-members would send their electronic signatures
- We would stick signatures in the electronic document
- Print this huge(hope it will be) document and deliver personally to DHS/USCIS executive officers
Any suggestions or changes are welcome.
