Hello!
I bought a MacBook Pro on the 26th of February, and iWork along with it. So today when I was filling out the rebate form for iWork, I noticed that it asks for the UPC codes on the computer and the iWork, along with the receipt.
Well, that had me worried. If I sent in my receipt, and both of the UPC codes... I would have no way of proving that I bought this product, if any problems ever occur! Is this how it is supposed to be or am I missing something here?
Thanks!

I just got my refurbished imac. I wasn't aware that there was something called migration assistant and I'm still not sure exactly how it works. I do have a Macbook Pro and it would be great if I could move everything to my desktop. Since I don't have a firewire cable, i will have to get it tomorrow. Before I try this, though, I wanted to make sure I understand it (and I apologize in advance if this is a really dense question but I am not very technical savvy).
Will the migration assistant basically move everything from my macbook to my desktop? I'm talking software like Adobe CS5 and MS Office along with files?
Any information is appreciated.
Yes it will move everything.
If you have a network cable you can run between the two computers and will be faster than FireWire. You can change the method from FireWire to network.
I used this method to move everything from my 2008 iMac and worked perfectly.

Whoo the iMacs are impressive. What speed are you averaging on the computer? I just added my brothers computer to the Macrumors folding.
I just started it today, so I have no idea. I'll see later next week how things go since I'll be putting my dual 1.25 back on the job after it finishes rendering this weekend.

Thanks for the replies, I will take a look at Linksys.
I have discovered that when closing the lid the latch that holds it closed will only catch approx. 1 out of 5 times and the lid will pop back open. Searching around the net I found that others have had this problem and apple will replace it. So today I will hopefully get my second new 15" in as many days. Oh well, I have to go back for an airport extreme card anyway (forgot that last night).
You know, you never find these kinds of little imperfections on wintel machines.
(sarcasm.)

I'm really particular about junk files on my system, so when I decided to remove Safari, I ran a search for "safari" on EasyFind and these turned up. Some of these files and folders are stored deep within the hard drive, with really intimidating names (such as Safari.syncschema and Safari.framework). Just wondering though, if they are safe for removal.

I just purchased a refurbished 2010 mac mini server and got it up and running only to find that I cant bring my files over from the time machine backup that I had for my old macbook pro. It looks like SLS does not support this. Is there anything I can do to get my music, photos etc from the time machine backup on my usb drive to the server?
I originally wanted to just install SL client instead of server but could not get that to work. When I booted from the SL retail 10.6.3 disk that I bought, the apple would change to a "no entry" logo and do nothing.
I figure if I can at least get my files from time machine onto the mini, I can live with it for now. I would assume that when lion comes out, it will allow me to install it and access my time machine backups. That's a lot to assume!
Any help will be greatly appreciated! :D

Thinking about picking up a Mophie Juice Pack and was wondering if the supplied cable will work with a car stereo USB iPhone/iPod input? I see they say you can still sync with iTunes with the cable but does it also work in the car?

Safari is based of open-source standards, just because safari can render the sites doesn't mean the site itself is standard complaint.

In my PowerBook g3 (wallstreet) screen started behaving erratically to the point it became useless. We bought a g4 iMac and never looked back.
Finally determined that I want to get files off that old laptop, and not sure how to do so? I'm pretty sure the PowerBook still boots, and I'm going to try hooking up an external monitor (no I didn't think of that 9 years ago) to see if I can use it to see for sure. If it does work, and I can access the system after all these years, I want to be ready to grab files right then.
What would be the best way for me to connect it to an intel iMac to transfer those files? Would it be as easy as connecting the two with an Ethernet cable and turning on file sharing? Or should I plan on connecting it to the campus network at work and dumping to some network drive space?
The PowerBook is running 8.5, I think, and the iMac is running the most recent 10.6.
Any advice?

Hi all,
This is just a FEELER but I might want to trade my ibook for a more powerfull desktop machine and my eMac for an apple laptop.
iBook I have:
12"@ 1.2Ghz
768 MB ram
30 GB HD
Airport
Combo
Battery holds 95% of original charge!
Out of 10 my ibook cosmetically is at an 8, few scuffs on outer case but the inside is cosmetically perfect.
eMac I have:
1ghz
640 MB ram
60 GB HD
Combo
Cosmeticaly almost perfect
European offers are prefered since shipping is cheaper, once again this is only a feeler(might act on it though:D )

With all respect...if you are having to ask what to do with a DMG, do you really think you should be installing OSX server?
Exactly. OP is not the target audience of OS X server.

I threw the folding@space onto my work Dell (I citrix in, so I don't really need a lot of CPU power to do that) and put it on the Mac Rumors team... (Yes, I'm running a Dell on the MR team, sorry)
Anyway, prior to F@H I've never heard the fan kick in on this thing and now with fan full blast full time, it runs too hot to 'lap' with anymore.
Is there anyway to run the client but have it go a little easier on the folding, so I might have other kids some day?

Start the capture and walk away?
It's a stack of tapes and the 2 I looked at only had like 10 min on them.
Oh well, gotta get done.

I love Daytrotter (http://www.daytrotter.com)- their design, the selection of bands, the quirky original pictures, the weirdly pretentious articles that manage to somehow cast the ordinary and banal in a scholarly light, and of course the music itself. I'd love it if they used a slightly higher bitrate, but it's a small complaint and doesn't take away from the overall enjoyability of these recordings.
Unfortunately I mainly just look there for bands I already know and wish I'd spend more time discovering new ones. Maybe there's some other sessions someone can especially recommend. Anyway, here's my current collection. Maybe someone wants to post their 'Daytrotter' library.
By the way: They just released an iPhone app (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/browserRedirect?url=itms%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252Fvi ewSoftware%253Fid%253D336773710%2526amp%253Bmt%253D8). It's also great.

Haven't actually read any of the books, but Dreamweaver usually comes with a great set of tutorials. Try those, and if the learning curve still is too steep, go for the Dreamweaver Bible (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0764543504/qid=1123025870/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-4406894-0006331?v=glance&s=books), The Missing Manual (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596006314/qid=1123025847/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-4406894-0006331) or similar. :)
I'd definitely agree with this advice. And if you don't go for the tutorial that Dreamweaver generally offers, you can always google for resources. I'm sure if you learned the general stuff from the tutorial, you'd be fine getting around and then could separately look up the more difficult stuff you want to accomplish. But books are probably an easier option :)

Can't you pull the hard drive out of the PC and put it in the imac? Sounds to me like the logic board may have gone out on your PC. That is similar to how our PC acted when that happened. If you think it would boot from the CD-ROM, you could put a knoppix LiveCD in there to boot off linux and remove the songs, but sounds like your PC won't boot.

Hi everyone!
I am in a fix. Please help.
I wanted to use some pictures from my mac which are inbuilt in its templates like brochure/ poster templates .
My question is - can I use them for commercial use or is there any copyright issue with that.
Any guidance will be of great help.
Thanks

I went from late 2008 > early 2011. Bar the airport issues, it seems a solid upgrade. Not amazingly faster, but FCP and CS5 stuff seems quicker.
