How was the 'room buzz'? I have seen the vid of the presentation and it looked like a good time was had by all.It was my first SuperMeet so the buzz was strong :)
I got to meet a few vendors that I was interested in too.
The folks that put this together gets my thumbs up.
They did a great job and kept all of us in high spirits.
The demo was amazing since I feel the new timeline is ground breaking.
Ive been using FCP since v1 and go as far back as Premiere 2.0 and not Premiere Pro either :)
I welcome this new way of working and hoping Adobe/Avid adopts this for After Effects, Premiere and MC.

I would imagine they're probably holding off until Tiger at which point, if I remember correctly, iSync is going to be discontinued and its functions integrated more heavily into the OS and .mac.
According to Steve's keynote this is correct. It is supposed to come out with Tiger and be more part of a .Mac sync than anything.

Hi guys,
I haven't been able to find any benchmarks comparing the 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 from late 2010 to the new 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 anyone know if it's a worthy upgrade, or mostly insignificant ?
Using Geekbench 64-bit new i5 2.7GHz scores about 8600 while the 2009 i7 2.8GHz scores around a 9700.
Both are 512MB VRAM, however the i5 has a newer card.
I was wondering the same.
I know the RAM is much faster but wanted to know about he processors.
The 1066MHz RAM vs 1333MHz RAM probably won't make a noticeable difference to the average user.
In our opinion, if you can snag an i7 from apples refurbished store (we saw them for less than $1400 yesterday), that would be quite a steal.
Cheers

Hello all,
I'm a new Mac user (just switched) and was wondering if there is anything equivalent to having shortcuts to my fonts. On my PC I had a big fonts folder with everything neatly organized into subfolders based on foundry, etc. When I had to install a font, I simply pointed the shortcut to the font. Nothing was actually copied to the windows font folder. Can I do this with Mac OS X? If so, please tell me how. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

DO NOT place them in your
"System>Library> Fonts" folder.
-
If you have a "User" you have set up specifically to do your graphics work
place the fonts in that Users "Home>Library>Fonts folder.
-
If you want every User on the machine to be able to use the fonts
place the fonts in "Main Hard Drive>Library>Fonts" folder
-
If you want to use the fonts with ONLY the Creative Suite Applications
place the fonts in "Main Hard Drive>Library>Application Support> Adobe>Fonts" folder.
-
Open Type font are, now a days< the fonts to use.

And you can also go to ...
www.versiontracker.com
2nd one is a good place to go if you are looking for something to open a specific file or driver.

For removing languages, several utilities exist, including DeLocalizer (http://www.bombich.com/software/local.html). I don't recommend using that one though, since it's inflexible and hasn't been tested on Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther".
Mac OS X doesn't really have or need uninstallers in the vast majority of cases. Usually, all you need to do to remove a program is trash the application file itself, any preference files in the Preferences folder, any support files in Application Support, and anything else in your Library the program may have left behind.

Looking for an Illustrator plugin (CS5 compatible) that's similar to HotDoors Cad Tools.
Actually I'm only interested in one that's capable of "measuring" an object and places the dimensions next to each measured side/segment/radius, etc. I really don't care for all the other wonderful features of Cad Tools at the time.
I have to do a lot of these for some die cut specs and it's very time consuming to do it manually (draw the arrows, etc.)...and Cad Tools update for CS5 is very expensive.
Any suggestions.
TIA

I actually just called apple to inquire about switching from a magic mouse to a trackpad. I decided to stick with the mouse, but she was nice enough to give me free upgraded next day shipping per my super-nice request. So I saved a few days and bucks:

I moved my MS Word from the dock (I didn't even know I did that) and now every time I try to open it, it crashes. Power Point Excel and Outlook work fine and I don't have the installation disks. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!! Here is the report:

It's nice to have enthusiasm, and I commend you on that. However, you really aren't doing anything new. Everything you say you want to do haas already been done. The sites that already do it have large and loyal fan bases already. I just don't think it's a wise idea to devote so much time and effort into something that will essentially be a "knock-off."
Sorry :(

So I'm pretty much brand new to the FaH scene (25% through my first work unit!), and I think it's pretty cool. I do research in pharmacology myself at the University of Pittsburgh, so I figure I might as well throw my idle cpu cycles into this project.
Thus far I've run across FahMon and InCrease, both which work pretty well. I'm wondering if there are any better apps to monitor FaH, which also include the ability to pause FaH, for the mac (leopard specifically)???
Thanks :)

We had to consider other options for back-up.
After lugging around a MBP we broke down and got one of these:
http://www.nextodi.com/product/NVS2500_en.html
We went with the older 2500 since we dont use P2 here.
Mostly CFs for Canons and RED MX.
As far as practical back-up, gameface has it on the nose :)

What is up with the Listeners2?
You can define the port on the existing listener. For example:
<key>Sockets</key>

it depends on what kind of wifi networks youre consistently on.
if you're using public or semi-public wifi networks, then you should probably change your root password.
OR
you can install SBSettings and keep the SSH toggle off and only turn it on when needed, which is what i do. keep in mind that every time you restart it will automatically turn SSH access back on, which is a safety measure in the case something gets corrupted.

I think it may have been a byproduct of a 1password update. It was updated again and the problem seems to have gone away.

(Note: Don't take the hood off a monitor and start poking around inside unless you are conversant with high voltage safety precautions or have a paid up life insurance policy. Those puppies have enough juice to stun a horse in them even when unplugged.)
Very good, sound advice. That being said I have salvaged many a discarded monitor doing little more than a degauss and adjusting the flyback transformer(the dangerous part.) I have heard that there is enough "zap" inside to send a man clear across the room.
