Im interested in buying either a Powerbook 3400c (must have ethernet) or an all-in-one desktop that has ethernet. If its a laptop it must have powercord/battery. PM me or post offers here, or IM me @ kingcrowing

I don't know for sure, but I think that behavior is built-in to the external drive and is not controllable from OS X. You don't say what drive you have, but this sleep behavior seems to be built in to many external drives and enclosures these days.
I have two Firewire 800 externals: a Seagate Freeagent Desk for Mac and a drive in a Rosewill enclosure, and both "spin down" and go to sleep after a few minutes of non-use. Luckily, for the way that I'm using them, that's what I want them to do.
I don't know of any way to change this, but maybe someone else does?
Regards,
Brian33

Well, if I'd been there I would have made a citizen's arrest, then shot them with my glock then sic'd my rottweiler on 'em....
.... oh, wait.... I'm Canadian.... I don't do those things. I would have cross-checked them into the boards, stuffed 'em with timmy's and held them for the the mounties by threatening to whack 'em upside the head with my hockey stick......
.... no, that's not what we do. I would have apologized for getting their way, and then said something passive/aggressive....
.... sorry for taking up your time for a silly post.....

I have and Iphone 3g, with the latest ipsw installed by Itunes 10 (should be 4.2.1)
In order for me to downgrade I have to put my phone into DFU mode which has been difficult, but through Google I found a forum post that said redsnow will put your phone into DFU mode, you just need the exact ipsw to start the redsnow process...
I have downloaded 4.2.1 but redsnow doesn't recognize it, any idea what could be wrong?
you don't need to put it into DFU to restore. if you have PC, press shift + restore at the same time and it will allow you to pick the firmware file you want. For 3G, my recommendation is to downgrade it to 3.1.3.

I jailbroke my itouch a little bit ago with redsn0w and my current firmware is 3.1. I have the itouch 8gb that was released previously to the 4g model. So that's like what ... 3g/2g?
With redsn0w, it currently is a tethered jailbreak. So I would need pc to boot my itouch.
Is there any latest firmware that I can update to and still jailbreak. Also, preferably make it untethered? Thanks
You will have the 3G model then, what you want to do is upgrade to 4.1 then jailbreak that using "limera1n or greenpois0n" there are many instructional websites, or just ask back here for help.
But 4.1 is your best option

I think it depends on the screen protector, mainly if it goes all the way to the edge of the glass or not. He clearly has one on in the pics so I guess it works. I also say InCase Slider is the best in terms of both looks and durability. Second would probably be Speck Candyshell for ease-of-use and durability.

the sim card is the normal sim card i dont know abut my sons itunes account info i will have him check. does anyone know if you are supposed to install a brand new unused sim card.or if your used card will work.this is pre a paid card.
If it is locked to a specific carrier, it will only work with that. You need a micro-sim card to put inside the iPhone, as far this goes, I don't know how the first Gen iPhone works with it.

Yes, I know you probably cant. But is there anywhere I could get a hole of a G5 Processor. I want to build one myself is possible. Also is there anywhere I should look for Power Mac's G5 used? They are all so exspensive on ebay for even used ones. I would love one if I could ever afford it.:(

Is the following basically another way to write an infinite loop?
for ( i=0; i<20; i++)
i--;
and
for (i=0; i<20; i*20)
printf("modicication...");
It looks like it to me, because the body decrements the 0 to -1, then the third expression increments -1 back to 0, and this keeps going on and on.
The second example will also continue to print also, because i=0, and 0*anything is always 0. Both infinite loops?

You're editing with a PAL frame size at an NTSC frame rate... fix that... PAL 720x576 @ 25fps or NTSC 720x480 @ 29.97fps

Sounds good, although perhaps it could be expanded to also include iPod related guides. While we're at it, we might as well create some other subcategories; some possibilities are Hardware Guides, Programming Guides and Troubleshooting Guides.
Also, I don't think Ugly Guides should be a subcategory of Guides. The articles in it aren't necessarily guides, they can be any page that needs cleaning up. Perhaps it could also be renamed to something less "harsh", such as "Articles for Cleanup".

The CPUs bench pretty close to the same.
Late2009 - i7-860 - 5,566
Mid2010 - i7-870 - 6,101
Mid2011 - i5-2500 - 6,469 (This CPU is 3.3GHz, the iMac i5-2500S runs at 2.7GHz.)
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
There are no benches out for the i5-2500S in the iMac yet, which runs at 2.7GHz so the closest for right now is that i5-2500 at 3.3, when you factor in the downclock they probably bench right around the same.

i recently installed 10.3 alongside OS9 on my sister's G4. it was having semi-frequent crashes so i thought i'd reinstall OSX, formatting the HD and therefore getting rid of OS9 for a "cleaner" install..
so i installed 10.3, ran the software update for 10.3.7, and then it crashed again in the middle of the update so i had to reboot. upon rebooting, it kept stalling at "Initializing (*or something) Login Window"... and NOW whenever i try to Erase and Install, the computer consistently crashes (telling me to reboot or power off) at around 3 min left of the install.. around the time it says "Installing Base Subsystem 2... 65%"
can anyone please offer any help?? i honestly have no idea what's wrong with it or how to fix it... i've run Disk Utility several times.. erasing both the volume and the HD.. i even "reset to zeros" and still the same result.. i'm completely baffled that i could still be having any kind of problems installing the OS after completely erasing and zeroing the HD..

Hello all
I am new to the forum , so please excuse me if I am making nay mistakes.
I have a problem with a pdf file that was sent to me by a business associate last night.
The email sent contained a pdf file that when I try and open it it freezes my system and brings on the dreaded spinning ball for ever, to resolve this i have to turn my mac off and on again.
If I try and highlight the pdf file in documents , again the spinning wheel shows up and again I have to turn off and on again.
The file needs to be deleted, but how do I do this if I cant even get near to it before my systems freezes and the spinning wheel shows up.
It is now affecting all my system.
I am desperate for help as have approached apple support but they cant help
Hope to get a reply
Thanks

yeah 8gb is kinda overkill for most tasks but with video editing and photo editing programs it really shines! The biggest improvement in speed was the 7200 rpm HDD. The thing boots in 20-30 seconds depending what you have starting up with the boot. Parallels also loves the 8gb of ram to run windows 7 and mac OS side by side. it's a great laptop but I needed a windows machine for work and have no reason to keep this.
